Help me to

Oral cancer goes undetected in thousands of people annually due to a lack of screening. It is a treatable cancer and our dental team can accurately diagnosis the early onset of oral cancer.

What is mouth cancer screening?

Mouth cancer screening involves a thorough examination of the entire mouth, to identify any irregularities such as lumps or lesions that may be potentially cancerous. Your dentist can highlight any suspicious growths, while considering other risk factors, such as smoking, referring you for further examination if necessary.

Lesions, ulcers and red or white patches in the mouth that do not heal should be examined. Lumps or nodules around your tongue, cheeks or neck should also be examined.

Why would I need mouth cancer screening?

Mouth cancer is responsible for about 2,700 deaths per year in the UK, with studies indicating that cases are on the rise. We recommend oral cancer screening twice a year for everyone, with additional checks for high-risk patients.

Additional risk factors include smoking, drinking and sun exposure. There is no reason to wait until your next regular check if you notice any unusual growths or long-term ulcers. Our dentists can give you advice and help you to determine the best course of action for any abnormalities in the mouth.
