In association with our friends at Digimax Dental, this weeks post is all about Wells on Wheels.
Wells on Wheels was set up by Shaz Memon, who owns Digimax Dental, to help the women in India with the daily chore of fetching water from wells that may be miles away from their homes in 40 degree heat.
Whilst wells in rural India are now more accessible than they were 20 years ago, it is still not unusual to see women carrying water in a metal pail balanced on their heads.
Children, too, are tasked with walking in heat of up to 40 °C to fetch water in this way – sometimes they are as young as seven years old.
These typical water-carrying methods, however, bring with them physical loading that has the potential to cause injury, lead to musculoskeletal disorders, such as neck or back pain, and risk disability.
So Shaz designed the water wheel. It allows water to be transported easily from the source, back to peoples homes. They also carry up to 5 times more water than the traditional method of carrying water in a basket.

As a practice, we have already donated enough to change the lives of 25 people. 5 new water wheels are on their way to India right now. And you can donate too. Visit the link below to leave as much as you can. Thank you!
