What is an implant?

Dental implants are wonderful things.

They’re natural looking, easy to take care of and a permanent solution for missing teeth.

They’re placed directly into your jawbone, where they provide an artificial replacement for the root of your missing tooth or teeth. They can support crowns or dentures, in a similar way that roots support natural teeth. Having missing teeth can really knock your confidence, as well as affect the way you eat and speak. Dental implants offer a long-lasting and discreet choice of treatment for replacing teeth.

Just look how small an implant is!

They come with a whole host of benefits, such as:
  • Improved appearance. Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth, and they blend in seemlessly.
  • Improved speech. Struggling to talk with a denture or because of a missing tooth?
  • Improved comfort. Dentures can sometimes be uncomfortable, and crowns and bridges can be difficult to clean.
  • Easier eating. Nothing beats your own teeth!
  • Improved self-esteem. Do you try not to smile because of how your teeth look?
  • Improved oral health. Implants are just as easy to clean as your own teeth.
  • Durability. With proper care, they can last a very long time. Just don’t go opening any bottles with them!
  • Convenience. You’ll forget you have an implant!

Nothing beats your own, natural tooth. But unfortunately we’re not at the stage yet where we can grow new teeth. But an implant comes mightly close.

And the best thing? You’ll be in and out of the practice just as quickly as if you were coming in for a filling. Seriously! But I won’t lie; an implant placement is classed as a surgical procedure.

You’ll walk into a fully gowned up surgery. Manoj and Terri will be dressed in their finest surgical robes. But the actual placement time is around 30 to 45 minutes. The rest is just prep and tidy up time.

An implant in progress

And then a few weeks later, we can fit you with an implant crown. We hope to have the entire process done in around 3 months.
