What is World Health Day?
We celebrate World Health Day on the 7th April globally to raise awareness of living a healthy lifestyle and keeping yourself in tip top condition.
Of course, being a dentist, we would like to focus on your pearly whites.
Whether you’ve got a lovely full set of teeth, or just the one, it’s never too late to start looking after your oral health.
There are three main ways you can do this:
1 . Maintain good oral health habits at home
It’s important to brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, and a medium tufted tooth brush. Brushing once at night will get rid of food and bacteria that may be hanging around, and at one other time during the day. We recommend a fluoride toothpaste because this will help protect your tooth enamel.
We also recommend using some sort of interdental aid once a day too, such as floss or an interdental brush. You’d be amazed at the stuff that can get stuck between your teeth and cause all sorts of issues!
You can also use mouthwash, but we recommend doing this at a different time of day to brushing, just to give your mouth extra protection during the day.
2 . Eat healthy
This one’s good for us anyway, but we recommend trying to stick to a healthy, balanced diet that is low in sugar (that means staying away from the chocolate and biscuits!). If you must have something sweet, try and stick to meal times because it will cause less damage to your teeth in the long run.
You should also avoid excessive alcohol consumption, and try and quit the tobacco if you can. Smoking masks a whole host of dental problems, and can make many of them much worse.
3 . Attend regular dental check ups.
We love seeing you anyway, so what’s stopping you? We can keep an eye out for a whole host of issues that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to see; we take regular x-rays to check the parts even we can’t see! We offer a number of fantastic dental plans to help you budget your dental trips for the whole family, and we can offer dental finance too.
If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment, please do not hesitate to call us on 0121 550 6958.
Your oral health affects so much more than just your teeth. Keep your mouth, mind and body happy this World Health Day.
